Never hide who you are. What your house looks like is not as important as how you live in it—as long as the mess is well organized and there’s a reason for it being there.

A chest or cupboard will help control clutter.

Floor furniture should provide a resting or changing place without getting in the way of traffic flow.

Use baskets for everything from umbrellas to muddy boots; they work fantastically.

Bedrooms

Master, Guest and Kids’

The bedroom is a favorite room of mine. It’s a place to entertain, work and sleep. Although an intimate space, I like to invite friends up for a quick chat or perhaps to share some news or just lie together watching the television. I’ve even screened my friend’s movie from here.

Less is always more is my mantra for perfect living. Good linens, interesting books by the bed, fresh-cut flowers. Something I don’t advocate: a TV in the bedroom. But there is nothing not to like about snuggling up in bed with a fab film.

When positioning your bedroom in the home, allow for morning light to stream through the windows. (Unless you work nights, blackout fabric is so nineties.) I can always tell what time it is in the early morning by the light that comes through the curtains and sheers. That’s part of being in tune with the world. In the eco-friendly environment that we have to live in today, houses must become more practical and less decorative.
